One Helicopter Isn’t Always Enough

Every day, our crew responds to an average of 4 life-threatening emergencies across a 3,500-square-mile area — but we can’t always reach everyone in time. As our mission numbers increase (up 135% in the last five years), so too does the number of ‘missed missions’ — incidents where our single helicopter was already deployed, leaving critically ill or injured patients waiting longer for care.

A second helicopter will change that. It means faster response times, fewer missed opportunities, and more lives saved across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. With your help, we can make this vision a reality.

Medical Director Gareth Davies said: “A second aircraft is a game-changer for patients and for us as we expand to be able to be by the side of more patients.”

We need your support

The total cost of our second helicopter is £7 million. Thanks to the incredible generosity of some major donors and initial fundraising efforts, we have raised £4m. But we still need to raise a further £3m and need your support!

More lives to save

Our new aircraft — the AW109 GrandNew — is a twin-engine helicopter designed for rapid emergency response. With a top speed of 177 mph, it can reach patients across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire quickly and efficiently. Its compact design makes it ideal for landing in tight landing areas, while its advanced avionics and flight performance allow our crew to operate in a wider range of conditions.

Scheduled for delivery in summer 2027 and fully operational by autumn, the new helicopter will work in tandem with our iconic yellow AW169, helping us respond to more emergencies, in less time, with the same high standard of pre-hospital critical care.

A message from our CEO, Karen Jobling

“We are absolutely delighted to share this incredible news with our supporters. The addition of a second helicopter means that we will be able to attend more emergencies, more quickly, and provide critical care to more patients who might not otherwise have access in time. This is truly a life-changing development for the communities we are here to serve.”

“Every life we save is a thanks to the people who support LNAA. The second helicopter will belong to everyone who has ever donated, fundraised, or supported us in any way. It will save many more lives, and we could not achieve this without them.”
