It was Family Fun Day at Southwell Racecourse on Sunday 12 July, and the day’s activities were a big hit with the 5,000 people who attended. The big draws for the day were our ambucopter, crew and charity team, the return of jockey Brian Toomey and none other than 2014 Britain Got Talent winners, Collabro!
The day was a magical celebration of our 21 years of saving lives in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Our charity team, along with CEO Peter Aldrick and Trustees raised thousands of pounds for the charity thanks to the generous support of the racegoers and Collabro fans. Many of the charity’s volunteers also attended the event; further adding to the celebratory mood of the day.
The support received by the members of the public was fantastic and the weather didn’t disappoint either. After a cloudy and drizzly start to the morning, the clouds finally departed for the first race, and then the sun never stopped shining.
The charity’s race; the 3.50 ‘Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance 21st Anniversary Handicap Hurdle’, was poignantly won by ‘Dr Robin’. But the biggest winners of the day were the crowds who stayed after the last race to bask in the sun and the incredible voices of the band; Collabro.
Our CEO Peter Aldrick was over the moon with the day: “It was a great day! Many sincere thanks go to everyone who helped to make it such a memorable celebration, either by participating on the day, or by contributing to the planning. The charity team, the Racecourse and Collabro were brilliant. This will be a lasting memory of our 21st Anniversary.”
